The “Action Heroes” project began in the spring of 2009 as a competition through Pixologic, but evolved into the very first gallery showing of 3D prints at the Gnomon School Gallery in Los Angeles California.  Initially we offered to create tactuals for first, second and third place, but the oppotunity to produce a greater number of fine art sculptures led us to producing six amazing prints. There was an array of characters; Sting Lady (image), Hedgehog(image), Dr. Root(image), Mantis Man(image), Gra’nox(image), and Nerve(image). As part of the competition each artist had to create a story to immerse their character in, and we brought these characters to life. Our intrepid Creative Director Bill Henderson personally transported the prints to the gallery, to ensure that they would arrive safely. Some of the artists were on hand at the gallery opening, and it was gratifying to see them admiring their art in a way that they weren’t able to before. After the showing, we shipped each of the tactuals to their respective homes, some as far away as Germany, and Poland! This show demonstrated the beauty of fine art.
